We raise Freedom Rangers for their great, old fashioned taste. Their genetic stock is derived from the American & European heritage breeds of chicken & they were developed in the early 1960’s to meet the highest standards of the French 'Label Rouge' Free Range program. They are healthy & active birds.
Our broilers are raised in bottomless 'tractors' which are moved twice daily to fresh pasture, this allows them to actively forage for around 20% of their diet, actually see daylight & feel the sun on their backs. It also keeps them safe from predators like foxes & hawks.
They are a slower growing breed, taking @11 weeks to reach an average table weight of between 4 & 5 pounds versus 7 weeks for the white Cornish Cross chicken which accounts for 98% of raised chicken for meat in the USA. But as we like to say, 'time is taste'.
Our chickens are fed non-medicated, non GMO feed which we buy from a local grain mill in
Middlefield here in Geauga County.
